Storage is tricky!
I recently purchased Drobo, 2nd edition. Besides of course Macbook Pro, this is the best money I’ve ever spent! Drobo is a self-managed system that backs up your data. It takes up to four basic oem hard drives and supports up to 16 terabytes of storage (the day “they” release 4 terabyte drives to the public, 6 terabytes for now). Most fascinating thing about the drive is that it creates more space than you would expect. It’s super easy to setup and you can use regular sata drives of any size.
The new 2nd generation also comes with firewire 800, which blazingly fast for large file transfers. I manage most of my jobs in Lightroom while they’re stored on my Drobo. I’m huge fan of Lightroom, but it’s pretty slow when you have many files. Drobo helps to speed things up with FW 800 and I prefer it to the drive on my laptop. Storage is storage and it’s not that exciting, but when things go down it’s a huge headace! I recommend Drobo to anyone who is considering buying a new external drive.
